Employment, Interning, & Volunteering at Fauna Forest Farm

Earth School Instructor

  • Schedule: Mondays 8:00a-3:00p

*Potential for additional days/ hours in the coming year if desired.

    Start Date: Jan. 2024

  • The Earth Arts Instructor is someone passionate about facilitating meaningful experiences of nature connection through nature-based arts and crafts, adventuring, song, storytelling, gardening, etc. This instructor will work with children ages 4-6, and support the whole instructor team in visioning and planning activities and experiences for the children, as well as facilitating the flow of the day and meeting children’s daily needs.

At The Earth School, we seek to connect children with experiences of beauty-making with the gifts of nature: crafting with natural dyes, weaving, pottery-making, plant pressing, experimenting with natural pigments, basket making, etc. We also seek to integrate special nature based crafts/ “earth arts” during particular seasonal shifts to celebrate each season, for example, wreath-making or candle-making to mark seasonal shifts.

It is not required that the instructor hired on in this position have a background already in earth arts, but that there is a willingness and commitment to learning through mentorship.

A background in guiding yoga or other mindfulness practices is also something we value, though not required.

Substitute Instructor

  • There is no particular schedule— this position is as needed.

  • Substitute Instructors are called upon when another instructor is unable to be present due to extenuating circumstances. At times, there is advance notice, and, sometimes, there is less notice, such as when a lead instructor is sick. The ES Substitute Instructors show up for this role as they are available. The Substitute Instructor will support the lead instructors in the facilitation of the day and nature-connection projects planned.

Instructor Interns

  • There is some flexibility in schedule. If you are wondering if there is a position workable with your schedule, reach out to us at: faunaforestfarm@gmail.com

  • The ES Intern Instructor position is well suited for someone with a background working with children who also strongly values the importance of nature-connection in children’s lives, and wants to expand upon their own passion, knowledge base, and skill sets in this field. The ES Intern will support the lead instructors in the facilitation of the day, as well as offer mentorship during projects, especially those that require more challenging fine motor skills— for example, knot-tying, sewing, primitive fire-making, grafting, instrument-making, etc. The person in this role will themselves be mentored by the Co-Directors/Lead Instructors in these skills, thus allowing them to better mentor the children in these skills and, also, offering them the opportunity to expand their own skill-set as relates to primitive and wilderness skills, gardening, homesteading, nature-based arts and crafting, storytelling, etc. For this reason, this position is stipend-based, and is best suited for someone who values the skill-building, training, and mentorship in the art of nature-connection with youth that they will be receiving through this experience.
*Ages 16 or older may apply.

The Earth School mission is to become a place of sanctuary for youth that supports the flowering of their intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual capacities through deep, meaningful relationship with the natural world.

If you feel inspired to support us in our mission, please reach out about joining our team!
